OptoGauge software for endoscopic area measurement
Optical ranging is the measurement of distances by light, a task with applications in several technological fields.
HEOS Photonics has recently developed OptoGauge, a novel optical ranging device based on fiber optics implementation of low-coherence interferometry.
Developed with medical doctors, OptoGauge opens the way to quantitative endoscopy in clinical surveys. In fact, present endoscopies do not provide the lenght scale of acquired images, because the distance between the endoscope tip and the imaged object is generally unknown.
Easily integrated in endoscopic devices, OptoGauge solves this problem allowing distance assessment with 20 µm resolution. Hence, a dedicated software leads to simple and precise measurements of areas and lengths of imaged objects.
Besides medicine, OptoGauge technology can prove useful in industrial automation, metrology or whenever an optical distance sensor with micrometric resolution is needed. Additionally, it can work also as a highly sensitive strain, vibration and temperature sensor.
